Solar2 Ltd is proposing to develop a solar energy development on land at Berryhill in rural Angus. The proposals are for an array of solar photovoltaic modules orientated in a southerly direction, with an export capacity of up to 49.9MW and associated supporting infrastructure.
The site was determined appropriate for a solar development, due to no cumulative solar developments within a 15 km study area, high grid availability in the area and proximity to a connection point and with no environmental designations within the site boundary that would constrain development. In addition, the site is located within an area identified as having capacity for solar development within the local plan.
Project Details:
- Project commencement Autumn 2019, with screening of the development for non-EIA
- Submission of a major planning application to Angus Council in summer 2021
- Appeal spring / summer 2022
Our Role:
ITPEnergised coordinated the studies and reports required in support of the planning application as well as providing engineering support and initial layout design of the development.
The project team, under the management of ITPEnergised, delivered a high-quality SEI Report in a short timeframe, made possible by effective project management and past experience of successful collaborative work and good communication across the technical team and client group.
Following submission of the application ITPEnergised provided post-submission support, collating responses to the application and coordinating responses, layout amendments and working closely with the local authority case officer. The application was recommended for approval at committee but refused by members on grounds of visual amenity.
ITPEnergised subsequently supported Solar2 and the legal team in their appeal of the decision.
Outcome:
The Scottish Government Planning and Environmental Appeals Division allowed the appeal and granted planning permission in September 2022.
